Digital Tools for Investigative Reporting

ICFJ and CONNECTAS invite you to participate in this call for a workshop, which will take place on June 9th, 10th and 11th. Register before May 22nd!

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) along with CONNECTAS, are extending a call to journalists in the Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname to participate in the “Digital Tools for Investigative Reporting” workshop. The due date to register is May 22nd, 2022.

This face-to-face training cycle will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, it is free of charge and it aims at providing tools to participants in terms of physical and virtual safety, multimedia narratives and investigation techniques applied to investigative journalism.

Requirements:

  • Living and working as a journalist in one of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname.
  • At least three years of experience highly interested in investigative journalism.
  • Fill out this form to register before May 22nd, 2022.
  • Submit a research proposal (maximum 100 words) about a relevant topic of public interest. Proposals with prior reporting will be preferred. Work in progress may be submitted as well.
  • Full vaccination schedule with vaccines approved by the WHO.

Keep in mind that places are limited. Journalists will be selected based on their profile, experience and motivation to participate.

The workshop will be held on June 9th, 10th and 11th in Trinidad and Tobago. The program will cover airline tickets, transport, housing and food.

Participants’ Commitments:

  • In case investigation proposals are executed, it will be with total editorial autonomy and editorial liability will solely rely on the author.
  • Accepting to participate in the workshop implies the authorization to the terms of publication and dissemination of the investigation material.
  • Participants commit to answering surveys prior and after some of the meetings.
  • Participants must be punctual.
  • Participants will adhere to biosecurity protocols demanded by the activity: complete vaccination schedule, PCR test before the activity, permanent use of facemask, and participating in a “bubble-type” scheme, meaning 100% face-to-face attendance only to scheduled events throughout the three days.
